Our Community

Spencers Solicitors is committed to its responsibilities as a professional legal practice, responsible employer and conscientious corporate entity including supporting both local and wider communities through fundraising, making donations and pledging company resources and time.

Local and wider communities are very much at the heart of many of our initiatives and we are proud of our team and the individual contributions they make. In addition to supporting ad-hoc projects, examples of our affiliations and support include:

Ashgate Hospice

Ashgate Hospice, based in Chesterfield, provides specialist palliative care and so much more. It's a local treasure which provides much needed support to those affected by life limiting illness, and their families. We've been privileged to be involved with this local charity for many years and in many different ways including:

  • Fundraising and donations
  • Pledging time and resources including the use of our Boardroom
  • Sponsoring events including a volunteers garden party
  • Providing football tickets for patients and staff
  • Arranging a charity football match at the Proact Stadium

Headway is the UK-wide charity that works to improve life after brain injury. Through its network of more than 125 groups and branches across the UK, it provides support, services and information to brain injury survivors, their families and carers, as well as to professionals in the health and legal fields.

We are passionate about supporting Headway and its fundamental goals of raising awareness of brain injury and the devastating effects in addition to improving the quality of life for those affected by brain injury.

In addition to supporting national coverage, we support a local branch of Headway (Headway North Derbyshire) through fundraising and in other ways including pledging time and resources. Examples include holding a 'Hats for Headway' fundraising event and attending regular committee meetings to help in any way we can.

Fairplay supports children and young people with disabilities and additional needs, and their families, across North Derbyshire.

We are pleased to support this inspiring local charity in different ways including pledging donations and attending valuable fundraising events including quiz nights.

Cavendish Cancer Care

Cavendish Cancer Care, based in Sheffield, is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living with cancer in South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire through support, counselling and complimentary therapies.

We are proud to support this local charity in their inspiring approach to patient care which includes the patient, their carer and their children. We will do so through donations and planned fundraising events. In addition, we are pleased to pledge our certifying (oaths, statutory declarations etc) fees to this charity.

Dronfield Town FC

Dronfield Town FC is a community grassroots football club which reformed in 1998 and runs over 35 teams involving more than 550 footballers ranging from under 9 boys and girls teams, through to the senior men and women’s teams.

We are delighted to support such a community driven football club through sponsorship and promoting the club wherever we can.

Whittington Wanders Cricket Club

Whittington Wanderers was formed from the merger of Old Whittington and Richland Wanderers Cricket Clubs and have two teams playing cricket on Brearley Park in the Yorkshire & Derbyshire League. We are pleased to support the club through corporate sponsorship.

Chesterfield in Bloom

Chesterfield in Bloom is a year-round campaign involving residents, businesses, schools, community groups and a wide range of volunteers which aims to make Chesterfield a cleaner and greener place to live, work and visit.

We have actively supported the Chesterfield in Bloom campaign for many years by way of corporate sponsorship and attending events.

Supporting Local Schools

We are committed to support our local schools through offering work experience and pledging time and resources including attending various mock interview and career days.

We have provided a work experience programme for over twelve years and strive to provide placements which are interactive and as authentic as possible for the students involved.

Commenting on our work experience programme, our Head of HR Services recently commented:

We very much recognise that work experience can have a significant impact on future career choices and really help students to build their confidence and communication skills. There is always a positive noticeable difference from the point of the induction to the completion of the placement, which is great to see.

Kelly Pashley-Handford, HR Services at Spencers

As part of our commitment to the local and wider communities, all employees are able to request up to half a day of paid leave, in each holiday year, to support local community projects and relevant national events.
